Horses I Have Known

![]() Me on "Smokey," the neighbor's pony. The two guys right in front of me are my brothers. The other was a neighbor. January of 1984, Redmond Washington. I guess you could say this was one of my first horsey experiences. There came a point in my life when I wanted a horse SO much, so I told my parents I was going to get one, and they said "not until you learn how to ride." So once again I started lessons, this time for real. I rode for a few years at HK Farms, which was not too far from where I live. I started out riding English, and even learned how to do some jumping. But I wanted to ride Western--I wanted to be a cowgirl. So I switched over, and even considered finding a horse to do some barrel racing at some point, but I simply never had time for that. When I was almost 13 my trainer agreed that I was ready to have my own horse, and she started to look for one. I tried a few horses and made a lot of phone calls, but none of them were really what I needed, until one day in April of 1992 she called me up and said she had a Quarter Horse mare for me to look at. And that was the day I met Thunder. |
